Firm Biographies


Daniel Friedson

Daniel Friedson is a partner in Art Industry Law.  Prior to starting this firm, he was a public finance associate in the Law Offices of Wayne D. Gerhold and also worked as a Clinical Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.  Mr. Friedson’s Clinic focused on legal education and representation for first-time homebuyers, minority and women owned small businesses, and nuisance and blight reduction for local and county governments.  As Director, Mr. Friedson implemented an Equity Protection Partnership with NeighborWorks Southwestern Pennsylvania.  In 2006, NeighborWorks identified Friedson’s work with their organization as a national “best practice.”  From 2006 to 2008, Mr. Friedson was an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs where he taught Legal Issues for Nonprofit Managers. 

In 1999, while practicing in South St. Louis, Missouri, Mr. Friedson, as primary neighborhood economic development program developer for the South Side Day Nursery, helped start the Economic Development Center, the Cherokee Place Business Incubator Center, the Home Daycare Business Program and the Red Brick Community Land Trust, a scattered-site affordable housing land trust.  All of his programs are still in operation today.
 
Mr. Friedson’s past practice experience includes the fields of art, public finance, government, corporate, real estate and nonprofit law, as well as civil rights, fair housing and appellate litigation.  He is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

 
Meredith Calfe

Meredith Calfe is a partner in Art Industry Law.  Prior to becoming an attorney, Meredith enjoyed a life-long involvement in the creative and performing arts.  While attending Bucknell University, she held leadership roles in multiple arts organizations, including working as a music director for the college radio station.  At the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Meredith was able to transition into organizational roles with Pittsburgh-based arts groups, including ArtDimensions Pittsburgh, an urban artistic cooperative and space-reclamation group. 

Meredith has served on committees for WYEP, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Quantum Theater. She has spent time as a creative consultant for Pittsburgh arts marketing company Nakturnal LLC and currently sits on the board of directors for the Union Project, an arts-programming and community development organization serving Pittsburgh’s East End. In the last year, Meredith has been honored to share her expertise at educational events for groups ranging from Carnegie Mellon University’s Fine Arts program to the Kiski School. She is the Chair of the Allegheny County Bar Association's Arts & the Law Committee.
